Welcome back dear readers, I’ve missed you. I wonder how your summer’s been? I’ve missed your encouragement and your responses to my little stories. Your feedback is so rewarding, please keep it coming! You give me the perfect reason to keep on exploring the fascinating relationship between humans and dogs.
This summer I found myself powering down the motorway in my Little Blue Car, with Moss in the back, classical music playing loudly, and a bunch of lavender on the passenger seat next to me to keep me calm. It was liberating.
We’d decided to drive to Devon and visit Moss’s dog family on the farm where she was born – Girls on Tour!
Moss would be meeting both her parents and several of her brothers. I didn’t know what to expect. It was a great opportunity, but would they get along?
The answer was in the play. When Moss found that they had the same energy and drive as her, she was totally at home. They roared around together exploring and having fun.
Watching them run as a family pack was an absolute delight.
Moss slept in my bedroom, each morning I was woken by two brown eyes staring intently at me, she was barely able to contain herself at the prospect going downstairs to find her family and more play! It was a bit like taking a child on their perfect holiday.
The body language of a happy dog is wonderful. I could see the joy in her eyes and in her whole-body wiggle.
It’s made me realise that having a Border Collie as a family dog is a huge responsibility, our next project is to find Moss a purpose that uses her natural skills.
Now there’s a challenge!
