Today I’m thinking about the harmony that is gradually growing between Moss and me. Having a young Border Collie can be quite a challenge, to have a pure working breed in a family environment has taken quite a bit of getting used to, for all of us.
When we are out walking there are a lot of distractions. As other dogs approach, I’m not exactly sure how Moss will behave, which can make me feel quite anxious.
Today it was just Moss and me walking beside the river, and between us there was a wonderful feeling of calm. I have Moss off the lead as much as I can, she was running by my side, not at my heel.
It’s the space between us that counts and today it was so comfortable. We are connected though our relationship, not through the lead.
We were both relaxed, both absorbed, yet connected.
Sensing that gentle connection made me feel good, it’s as though I could breathe deeper. There was a gentle understanding, a trust, we are walking together, connected spiritually, not just physically.
Would it be too much to suggest it’s a sacred space?
It’s rather like walking with a very dear friend, when you can just walk together, no need to chat, just be together.
Our bond is stronger now. I know that Moss and I are both by nature intense characters, calm is not a particularly familiar place to us, so when we have snippets of our own harmony it’s all the more precious.
